The group that calls itself ‘Juncture‘ is a mix of students from VPA, Newhouse, Maxwell and the iSchool. So far, their favorite part of the #SUCharrette Social Media Futures has been the cross-campus collaboration that most of them have not previously experienced. According to Roarke Clinton VPA ’13, “Sometimes with people from your own field, there’s more of an intimidation factor…here we each bring our own skill sets and expertise that we can leverage.”
Each member indicated how knowledge of other areas has contributed to the overall presentation, from communication skills to tech skills to the design that helped to make the presentation more fun and creative. All agree that this would not have been possible without the collaborative aspect of this project. There was also appreciation voiced for the panels of experts who shared their practical advice and vision, with a special mention of Dan McSwain and his experience working on social media for the Obama campaign.
Juncture’s big picture idea is control of social media; how will that look, how will it evolve, and who will ultimately have the control. Juncture sees business, government and people as the three distinct groups that will interact on a massive scale to decide the future of social media. The reason they named their group Juncture is because they see social media as where those three groups meet, interact and create social media. We are eagerly awaiting their presentation which will heavily incorporate existing forms of social media.
Here’s a clip of Juncture discussing collaboration.
