For the third consecutive year, MLB Advanced Media and Syracuse University are hosting the MLB.com College Challenge. After repeated success and increased participation, we have decided to throw in a few new wrinkles to last year’s all-night hack-a-thon style event. In last year’s challenge, the hardworking students of Syracuse University were given the chance to create, innovate and pitch their ideas to MLB Advanced Media (MLB.com) employees. This year, we’re repeating the contest, and focusing more on one of the hot new trends in the technology industry: Gamification.
The MLB.com College Challenge will be a two-day event including a kick-off dinner at Club 44, an all-night hack-a-thon, and a networking/final presentation event at the Alliance Bank stadium, and will take place on the Syracuse University campus from November 29th-30th. The competition will put teams of students to the test by asking them to attack real-world problems in technology and sports. Teams will submit and present competing solutions to demonstrate their creativity, insight, and talent in a fun, interactive environment. Teams will be judged on creativity, innovation and professionalism and will compete for a grand prize trip to NYC, highlighted by a behind-the-scenes tour of MLB.com’s headquarters in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City and lunch with MLB.com employees.
Check out this video with two previous College Challenge participants, who now both work at MLB.com, and let them tell you what it’s all about….
Registration:
Each competing student must register online at http://mlbam.ischool.syr.edu with a team. Rosters need to be composed of 2-5 registered Syracuse University students, and MUST include at least one iSchool student. Students from all programs, schools and colleges, and skill and degree levels are welcome to register for this event. However, space is limited, so plan to register early, and definitely by the November 15 deadline.
